The Best Holiday Travel Wardrobe Essentials are Officially ON SALE!

The holidays are almost here and little get-aways are right around the corner.  I can’t wait! This year I want to pack only what I need so I don’t spend all my time packing to leave and then re-packing to head home again.  I’m going to pack like a pro and make a capsule wardrobe to mix and match, taking at least one of the holiday / travel stresses out of the equation.  And I don’t want to spend a fortune doing it.  The sales are officially on and I am over-night shipping these finds and saving big bucks in the process.

Shop Michael Michael Kors Jacket: Nordstrom.com
Shop Current / Elliott Jeans: Shopbop.com

Shop JCREW Sweater: Jcrew.com

The key to keeping things simple is to pack basic pieces that work well together, and are classic without being boring. Rule of thumb: choose neutral colors and no more than four so they will all compliment each other.  Choose a packable down coat and wear a wrap-style belted wool coat on the plane.

Shop LOFT Sweater: Loft.com
Shop MANGO Jeans: ShopMango.com

If you are anything like me, style is right on par with comfort and these pieces will travel well, keep me warm and cozy, and take me from brunch through evening without skipping a beat.  I’ll wear the jeans alternating the coats and the fair isle sweater for shopping, socializing, and sightseeing, and switch to the faux leather jeans and black turtleneck for dinner and shows. The black satchel bag is large enough to carry essentials on the plane and small enough not to look like luggage or be too heavy to carry around  all day.  I’ll add black boots and a pair of statement sneakers that I already have, and I’m good to go.

Shop Steve Madden Boston Satchel: Nordstromrack.com
Shop Lauren Ralph Lauren Coat: Nordstrom.com

Wishing you a happy Thanksgiving Beauties! I’m thankful for all my amazing readers! Blessed!

How to Dress Like the French for your trip to Paris

Paris is always a good idea.  If you are planning on a Francophile fix this summer, it’s time to start thinking about your travel wardrobe that will have you looking like you just happen to throw these pieces on without a second thought, just as most French women would have you believe.  Look for updated classics that are feminine and laid back.  French women never, ever want to look like they are trying to look good but rather that it is their innate sense of style that gives them this chic sophistication.  The truth of the matter is, they work at it and build their wardrobe around quality, timeless, pieces they will wear for years to come.

Just like women everywhere, the French love jeans, but it is how they wear them that takes them up a notch.  If you are going into the countryside then wide-leg jeans worn with a fitted t-shirt and sandals is perfect, but a stroll through the Marais is another story.  Pair your jeans with a statement blouse or fitted boy’s blazer, and pair with a chic handbag and booties for the perfect casual but elevated daytime look.

Breton stripes are just about as French as it gets and most French women have multiples in their favorite fits and colors.  Wear a fitted striped shirt under a jacket with jeans, or a looser shirt with a skirt or wide-legged trouser.  Bonus points of you add a delicate piece of jewelry to amp up the femininity of this classic look.

Sightseeing doesn’t have to mean sneakers and a backpack to be confortable.  Summer is the perfect time to wear dresses and it just feels so right in Paris. Romance is not dead!  Pack a couple of dresses that will take you from the Louvre to the dinner on the Left Bank.  Look for pieces that flow and are comfortable and that can be worn with ballerinas or flats that are actually meant for a walking – your feet will thank you.

While a little cocktail dress is a wardrobe staple, look for something artful to amp up the style factor.  Peekaboo cutouts, fringe, and short hemlines are just the right sort of embellishment for a fun, flirty night on the town in the City of Lights.

A good coat that packs well and is as comfortable as a bathrobe is indispensible for travel to handle inclement weather or chilly A/C, or to just look pulled together.  But be honest: you just love to look like a star in a classic film noire movie.  It’s a good look.  Extra credit if it looks like it belongs to your French amour and you just borrowed it.

The secret is out and now you have it.  Parisian style is about sophistication, comfort, femininity, and insouciance, with a dash of romance.  Bon voyage!

Boho-lux Chic for Instagram-worthy Getaway Style

It’s that time of year when your mind and body are crying out for warm breezes, sunshine, and bare skin absorbing much-needed vitamin D.  I’m looking for sand, sun, and palm trees, where the only winter blues are the azur colors of water and cloudless skies.

The shops are filling up with spring fashion giving us a tempting hint of summer to come and an enticing jumpstart on warm-weather dressing for a winter getaway.  It’s a hard fact that by the time you can actually wear summer fashion at home, the stores will already be stocking fall wear, so the time is now to start planning out your summer wardrobe.

No matter your vacation style goals, the resort and spring collections are full of lux-boho influences, with pieces that were right on trend while being classic at the same time.

Look for folkloric details like embroidery, lace, and crochet on pieces that float and move, and cutouts and draping that show off glowing body skin on legs, shoulders and décolletage.

Gladiator shoes and mirrored sunglasses are accessories legendary boho goddess Talitha Getty wore for her classic getaway chic that still inspires designers to this day.  These Instagram-ready styles will become your favorite pieces, not just for your winter getaway but from this coming summer.  Vacation, we are ready for you.
