Runway and editorial makeup is sometimes so deliciously off the wall that we can’t stop thinking how much fun it would be to try some of these looks.  Designers and editors want to make a style statement that sets off the designs in a memorable way, often creating looks that have as much impact as the fashion.  It can be very theatrical and dramatic, which is why Halloween is the perfect time to try out these extreme hair and makeup looks.

Model Crush Monday – Natalia Vodianova, aka Supernova!

Natalia Vodianova is one of those rare models who continues to rank amongst the top international supermodels year after year since she first broke into the modeling world at age seventeen.  Born and raised in Gorky, Russia, Natalia famously sold fruit at a market stall to support her single mom and two half sisters, one afflicted with cerebral palsy before joining a modeling agency at age seventeen. Now age 34 and the mother of five children, Natalia is the founder “Naked Heart Foundation” a charity that creates play areas for Russian children in urban areas, and provides support for families raising kids with disabilities.  Her famous “Love Ball”, a star-studded fashion world event raises funds to support the cause which has now opened over 90 playgrounds in Russia.  Her newest endeavor goes hand in hand with her charity projects, the new Elbi app with a “love button” that allows users to easily connect and donate to various charities worldwide.

Famous for her almost decade-long contract with Calvin Klein for jeans, lingerie, and the fragrance Euphoria, Natalia has appeared in some of the raciest of the brand's advertisements.  She has graced over seventy international Vogue covers, walked in over 400 runway shows, has been featured in four different Pirelli calendars, and been the face of brands from Guerlain, to Stella McCartney, to Moschino, to Theory.  She was reported to have made 8.6 million dollars in 2012 alone.

A model with a heart and a true purpose to make the world a better place is compelling enough, if she wasn’t one of the most beautiful, versatile, and inspiring models in the business.  It doesn’t hurt that even after five children she looks young and fresh and just as intriguing as ever!

Supermodel mini baby boom! Model Moms Inspire on Instagram

It’s a mini baby boom in the modeling world and baby bumps are watched by millions on Instagram.  In the past two weeks, two Victoria’s Secret angels welcomed their own little angels.  Behati Prinsloo gave birth to her first child, a little girl named Dusty Rose, and Candice Swanepoel welcomed her first born, a baby boy named Anacan.  The new moms join a long list of supermodels who have given “yummy mummy” a whole new meaning.

Having a baby used to signal the winding down of a modeling career, as it was assumed that giving birth would somehow ruin a model’s figure and distract her from her career.  Not so!  Today’s models are even more amazing after having their babies, with more sensual, womanly curves.  It is now completely normal for a model to start her family in her late twenties as they know that their career will pick up again and even expose them to a broader audience after they have kids. Modeling careers can go on indefinitely now and pausing to start a family no longer means an end of her career unless a it is a model’s personal choice.  It actually focuses a model’s energies into achieving more while working less in order to spend as much time as she can with her offspring, while providing for them at the same time.

I managed to keep my hand in the modeling world while I had my own three kids and wouldn’t change a thing.  I became a much more successful and focused model after starting my family, and with the great support of my agents and clients I have been able to maintain my career and achieve so many of my goals while raising my kids.  Some models, such as Adriana Lima, Doutzen Kroes and Heidi Klum have even walked runways – including in the epic Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show – only weeks after giving birth.  Many model moms like Kate Moss, Natalia Vodianova, and Sasha Pivoverova have appeared with their children in the pages of Vogue shot by legendary photographers in some of the most beautiful and memorable editorials ever.  The industry no longer dictates when or how a model can begin her family or influence how she raises her kids.

Here’s to yummy mummies everywhere!  Welcome Dusty Rose and Anacan!  We will be watching your moms’ Instagram feeds to share in their joy with their new little angels!
